It has beenmypleasure toworkwithLilyde Silvaoverthe pastfouryears ona varietyof projects.
Her commitmentandenthusiasm forthe work,mainlyonenvironmentalprojects,drawsthe interest
of all involvedasshe enters intothe role of a natural leader.
I firstmetLilyon a hands-onworkshopon‘The Edible Window Box’,avoluntaryprojectforTidy
Towns.Her successwasevidentalongthe window sillsof the MainStreetinthe town inquestion.
She was invitedbyCloughjordanHeritagegrouptoleada walkinthe local beechwoodat
Knocknacree. Forthisprojectshe chose the title;Medicinal WoodlandPlants. Herknowledge of the
subjectandrapport withparticipantsmade ita memorable outing.
Perhapsthe mostrecentexperience of Lily’stalents wasthroughthe local schools’‘MayDay Project’
carriedout during2014-15. Lilywasinvitedtobringtwolocal schoolstogethertoworkon a studyof
the biodiversityof twosites,ScohaboyBogandKnocknacree Wood. The pupils,andteachers,
eagerlylookedforwardtoeachof Lily’stalkswithwell researchedvisuals.Aspartof a publicevent,
towardsthe endof the project,the participatingpupilsled aguidedtourof the wood.Theirinsights
intotheirtopicimpressedall present.WithLily’sinitiative itdevelopedintoahighlyacclaimed
presentationwhichwasdisplayedataninternational conference,atthe request of Coillte.Lily
createda video;basedonthe processof active learning,talksforpupilsandteachersandfollow-up
classwork, each elementfacilitatedbyLily,surpassedall expectations.
