• City of Colorado Springs Municipal Code
– Chapter 8, Article 2 sets forth the powers of the
Colorado Springs Fire Department

Substance Abuse
• No alcohol or other mind-altering substances
at any time.
• Notify Training Lieutenant immediately if
informed by physician that prescription
medications could impair safe performance of
training duties
• Tobacco products are prohibited on CSFD
premises at all times

Participation
• Illness/Injury – more than 40 hours – may be
dismissed
• Give 100% effort in everything you do
Failing an evolution is an acceptable
occurrence.
Quitting an evolution is NOT.

• Demonstrated to all personnel & civilians
• Use professional titles

• Stand when any CSFD employee or civilian

Appearance
• Head hair may be permitted to grow naturally,
but must be clean, groomed, and neatly
trimmed so as not to present a ragged, bushy,
unkempt, or eccentric appearance. Hair color
must be consistent with the natural human
hair spectrum. Hair must not obstruct an
employee’s vision.

• CMCB Firefighter I/Hazmat practical
• 4 skill stations- two individual & two team
• CSFD station failures - must retest in 2 academy days.
• 2 failures = recommendation for termination
• 2 CMCB station failures = retest same day
• 3 CMCB station failures = retest within 7 days,
may be recommended for termination

  • 21. Trainee Code of Conduct (cont) Authority • City of Colorado Springs Municipal Code – Chapter 8, Article 2 sets forth the powers of the Colorado Springs Fire Department

Trainee Code of Conduct (cont) Substance Abuse • No alcohol or other mind-altering substances at any time. • Notify Training Lieutenant immediately if informed by physician that prescription medications could impair safe performance of training duties • Tobacco products are prohibited on CSFD premises at all times
  • 23. Trainee Code of Conduct (cont) Participation • Illness/Injury – more than 40 hours – may be dismissed • Give 100% effort in everything you do Failing an evolution is an acceptable occurrence. Quitting an evolution is NOT.

Tardiness • Unexcused tardiness/absence will not be permitted and may result in recommendation for termination • this includes not reporting to work, the classroom, or the drill field.

Trainee Code of Conduct (cont) Appearance • Head hair may be permitted to grow naturally, but must be clean, groomed, and neatly trimmed so as not to present a ragged, bushy, unkempt, or eccentric appearance. Hair color must be consistent with the natural human hair spectrum. Hair must not obstruct an employee’s vision.

  • 44. Testing Policy • CMCB = Colorado Metropolitan Certification Board – CSFD – Denver FD – Aurora FD – West Metro Fire Rescue – Poudre Fire Authority – Littleton Fire Rescue • CMCB Exams – FFI and HM during the academy – FFII 6 months post academy

  • 46. Testing Policy (cont) Written • Weekly written exams, 80% = passing • Certification written exams, 80% = passing • Test Retakes – 2 Academy days – 2 Failures = recommendation for termination

Testing Policy (cont) Practical Skills Tests • Three CSFD Practical Skills tests • CMCB Firefighter I/Hazmat practical • 4 skill stations- two individual & two team • CSFD station failures - must retest in 2 academy days. • 2 failures = recommendation for termination • 2 CMCB station failures = retest same day • 3 CMCB station failures = retest within 7 days, may be recommended for termination Handout - Important Exam Dates

  • 50. Supervisory Discussion Records • 2 SDRs given in the same area may result in recommendation for termination • Ultimately it is your responsibility to correct errors and improve performance
  • 51. General Information • Conex assigned to Recruit Academy – #1 Equipment/Tools(combo 2435) – #3 PPE(combo 1542) • East Door FDC and gates – Combo 5241* • Keep locker and PPE storage area clean • Lock your locker • Enter building no earlier than 15 minutes prior to report time
  • 52. Seniority Upon Graduation Determined by: GPA Minus Unsatisfactory Eval Scores ** All written exams contribute to GPA**
