◦ Interior design and art enthusiast Liliana Bordallo leverages her interests to

interior design services. In her vacation time, Liliana Bordallo enjoys traveling
the world and visiting famous museums.
Despite being one of the most well-known museums in the world, the early
history of the Louvre is relatively unknown. The museum was opened in
1793, but the structure itself dates back to around 1190.
In that year, King Philippe Auguste commissioned the construction of a large
fortress at the site of the Louvre. With the intention of protecting Paris from
invaders, the fortress was built around defensive towers and four moats.
However, by 1356, the city extended beyond the fortress walls. The structure
stopped serving as a fortress altogether by 1364.

3. Louvre
◦ Now that it no longer served as a fortress, the Louvre drew the attention of
King Charles V. He decided to convert the structure into a royal palace, and
the remodeled building served as a residence until Charles VI. Following his
death, subsequent monarchs built their palaces in other areas.
For about 100 years, the Louvre was unused. This changed when Paris was
again named the kingdom’s official seat by Francois I, an avid art collector.
In 1546, the king had the old castle destroyed and a new royal residence
built on the site. Every monarch after Francois I added to the building.
In the 18th century, residents of France began calling for the public display
of the royal art collections at the Louvre. The museum was finally opened by
the revolutionary government in 1793.
