Winner: ASID Wisconsin 2010 Gold Award

1. Methodist Medical Center of Illinois Peoria, Illinois Winner: ASID Wisconsin 2010 Gold Award Project Details: $7.2 Million total project cost 7,500 SF Completed April 2010 Project Statement: This project relocated the front door, reception and registration spaces for the Methodist Medical Center of Illinois in the first phase of a campus master plan with the goal of creating a “four star” hospitality-like experience for patients, visitors and guests. Photos courtesy of Kahler Slater The two story atrium features a four panel glass art installation by local artist Hiram Toraason. The design, inspired by the Illinois River, is a reflection of the local environment.

2. The walls of the private registration and check in spaces feature back lit panels of “river grass” to tie back to the river theme prevalent throughout. The plum accent wall was a nod to the floral artwork in the donor wall across the hall.

3. The project included a new donor wall where particular attention was given to the lighting. Sculptural forms were lit from below, photographs were highlighted with individual spot lights and lighting concealed in the balance rail provided overall illumination of the plaques.

4. Blue glass mosaic tiles were used to detail the reception desks and wall sconce niches, tying back to the client’s blue logo and the Illinois River. The warmth of the cherry wood, a native Midwest hardwood, was the species featured most prominently in the design and served as the complementary backdrop to the blue.
