2. Don’t expect to get by with no
DBA skills
Skilled developers are not enough. A skilled DBA is needed for most applications.
Here is our story…….

“Gggrrr, this poor query performance is a real pain. We need to
move to another RDBMS” Say the developers.
“You are wise in the ways of SQL. You are able to write clever,
complex queries but DB2 is not part of your skill set. Allow me to
help ” Says the DB2 Geek.
4. This is what we did….
We configured a basic set of automated
housekeeping routines which resolved
performance issues……
.....and made the developers happy
5. But…
In the process a lot of other issues were uncovered with data quality (developers
coding inefficient SQL to get around duplicate data that shouldn’t exist).
