PROJECT MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE
Transformations Graduate Conference, Wayne State University
Conference Director, Volunteer – 2016
¤ I was the lead coordinator for this second annual conference, held March 5, 2016. After attending the first
conference in 2015 and doing qualitative research among other participants, I identified three areas that required
improvement: we needed more diversity in presentations, more room to move around in, and a more time‐
conscious schedule.
- 2. LAURACUNNINGHAM
¤ I increased the amount of presenters by increasing awareness of the conference, running email campaigns among
all universities within an easy day’s drive (estimated at 4 hours with traffic). I then moved from a one to two‐room
format to allow for the extra presenters as well as space to move. This had a secondary effect of raising our non‐
presenting attendance from 40 to 75; I also assigned an individual to advertise our event to persons of importance
around Wayne State and Detroit. Each panel was given its own moderator to keep track of time and ensure panels
began and ended when they were scheduled.
¤ Personally appointed in April of 2015, leaving three months for initial planning before the conference was
announced regionally, with a deadline for paper submission set mid‐January, 2016. Panels were formed over a two
week period. I oversaw the fund‐raising, assigning two individuals to plan and implement bake sales. Minor
departmental funding was submitted in the fall.
Event Coordinator – Belegarth Medieval Combat Society, Illinois State University Chapter
President, Volunteer – 2008, 2009, 2010
¤ Planned a weekend‐long overnight camping event with 400‐500 people each year. My primary duties included
obtaining a campground with facilities for the attendance numbers, which changed yearly, working with the group
treasurer to plan an allocate group funds, and coordinated a group of 6‐8 key individuals who directed the main
tasks during the weekend of the event: cooking, security, daily event planning, and entrance fees.
¤ Worked within a variety of timeframes, depending on the task. Funding was a nine‐month long process where
multiple fundraisers were organized: donations, campus‐awareness events (bake sales), as well as smaller, day‐long
events with entry fees.
¤ At the end of each year, I oversaw a satisfaction survey among participants, advertised on the national web board
for the combat community, to identify areas that required improvement. A plan of action was then drafted and
presented to the board of directors for the group elected to run the follow year’s event.
Lincoln’s Metallic Imagery, Cunningham Exonumia
Lead Editor, paid ‐ 2012‐2015
¤ Responsible for total layout and design of book, including all graphic work. Key point of contact with company for
third party vendors and resources including historical research for book, obtaining license for photographs,
proofreading, and sales post‐publication. Currently running the online Amazon and website‐based sales for the
book.
