Why is Architecture,
Engineering and Design
Important as Careers?
The goal today is to make sure 100 years from today we are in the
conversation when it come to rebuilding America and the world
The Great Pyramids built in Egypt are a part of our history
Benjamin Banneker , a former slave, engineer and architect was
commissioned by Thomas Jefferson to design Washington DC
Paul Williams, is the designer of the LAX Airport Control Tower
Architecture and engineering is a excellent career choice with a lot of jobs
from the construction industry to the manufacturing to the medical industry
7. The art or practice of
designing buildings
is a part of our
culture dating back
to the Pyramids!
Architectural design
is one of the most
important elements
of our creative
process!
The planning of our
community and the
built living
environments is a
major missing link in

This summer, the SoCal Chapter is offering their sixth annual 3-day Saturday
only summer camp (SC:NOMA|ARCH Camp). The summer camp has been
well received since our first effort in 2010.
Last year we received the Los Angeles Community College District’s,
Career Technical Education Award for the camp.
The Camp which is located on the campus of Southwest College, in it’s new
LEED Certified Platinum Facilities, introducing the participants to practical
essential elements of architecture and engineering, as to promote a potential
career and vocation in the fields, via walking tour, lectures, drawing and a
hands-on projects.
The CAMP NOMA as been created to Equip, Empower ,Educate and Engage
our Youth through architectural design and engineering techniques as well as
establishes and cultivate a unique platform fostering the facilitation of
community awareness. The engagement of corporate sponsors and community
partnerships have presented diverse opportunities for civic participation and
community cohesion.
9. 9
The camp offers a direct correlation with working practitioners in the
field of architecture and engineering that look like the community they
serve and have their best interest at heart…
The Camp take it’s participants from know very little to opening up this
very lucrative industry.
The value proposition for the student is
• Exposure to the Built Environment
• Hands-On Application
• Opening the participant to how they can begin to use their
innate qualities to create.
• Mentorship!
We have found the CAMP the be a beacon towards engagement of our
youth in more ways than one!
