PHASES GUIDE
OBJECTIVES At the end of this session the studentswill be able to
comparetwo numbersof one or two digits each.
MATERIALS
Boxes filled with concrete numbers.
Alligator.
Objects (cars, fruits…etc.).
Worksheet.
WARM UP
Providestudentswith a box which contains numbers
from 1 till 20.
Ask studentsto arrangethe numbers(in pairs).
Check the studentswork.
PROCEDURE 1
1) Show the studentsthe “Alligator”, stick it on the
board.
2) Ask the studentsto tell us the way they ordered the
numbers(increasingdecreasing...)
3) Write on the board two terms:
a. Greater than.
b. Less than.
Ask onestudentto read these two terms.
Ask the studentswhat do they know about these
terms (collect answers).
4) Check if all studentsunderstood these terms by asking
them to expressby giving examples.
EXAMPLES
5 is greater than 1. (5 > 1)
1 is less than 5. (1 < 5)
13 is greater than 10. (13>10)
10 is less than 13. (10<13)

5) Hold the alligator and sing the following song:
Alligator, Alligator
Which one will you eat
The bigger one,
The greater one,
It will be sweet
6) Repeat the song 5 times together.
7) Ask each student to come to the board, hold the
“Alligator”, here the teacher will give him/her 2
numbersof one or two digits each. So, that he/she has
to compare them using the “Alligator”.
CLOSURE
Sing the song again.
Solve a worksheet.
3. NOTES
The box filled with concrete numbers and using the
“Alligator” will help the students with special needs if
we placed objects under each number representing it.
