In a recent article in Golf magazine, PGA Tour player
Jason Day shared tips on how to gain an extra 15
yards when driving off the tee by making small
adjustments during the swing, such as eliminating
swaying motion in the backswing.
3. Day notes that moving off the ball during the backswing
generates a “reverse C” body configuration at the top of
the swing, which reduces leverage and increases
inconsistent impact.
Instead of swaying, Day recommends turning the body in
an “I” shape to get behind the ball without too much
lateral movement in the lower body. Day states that the
“I”-shaped swing helps create swing stability that is
necessary for better ball contact, improved swing speed,
and more powerful shots. To eradicate such sway and
practice the “I”-shaped swing, Day suggests placing a rod
against the right hip while on the driving range to
discourage excessive lower body movement. For more
