3. BIG DATA VALUE ENHANCEMENT
Big Data continues to enhance and have a positive impact on organisations throughout the world, the
majority of which have gone onto prosper as a result of a strategised implementation. There are
however others for whom the transition to Big Data has not been so smooth.
If implemented and integrated properly, Big Data has the potential to provide the following benefits:
Improved efficiency and quality
Customer trend analysis
Customer dialogue
Improved and faster decision making processes
New revenue streams (products & services)
Performance risk analysis
Reduction in operational costs
Data security
The key for organisations within the region as we head into the Big Data era, is to understand the
answers to the following key questions:
Does Big Data create wealth within your industry?
Do Big Data analytics only assist large corporations, or are they also of value to small and
medium-sized enterprises?
What is the impact of Big Data analytics on a nation’s or organisation’s financial growth
prospects?
Does Big Data really add value to a company’s bottom line?
What key components must you have in place before embarking upon a Big Data project?
How can you measure the ROI of Big Data?
How do you identify your Big Data business objectives and ensure you have a team capable
of delivering?
What aspects of Big Data can you access and leverage on now?
What are the latest tools and techniques utilisable in the Big Data industry?
How can you drive the top-line revenue impact on your business?
The summit is designed in order to cover these topics so as those in attendance are able to gain a
holistic understanding of what is requited to remain regionally and internationally competitive throu-
gh their adoption of a Big Data strategy.

Pre Conference Workshop Day: 15th May 2016
MASTERCLASS LEADERS
Juergen Urbanski
Vice President Client Success
Silicon Valley Data Science
Juergen Urbanski is passionate about helping Big Data crossover into
mainstream enterprise adoption. As the former CTO of Deutsche Telekom’s
Enterprise Services Division, he initiated the journey to a data-driven organisa-
tion, which required bridging the gap between data, people and technology.
As a CTO, he has seen first-hand how Big Data creates a substantial uplift in
revenue. As a board member for Big Data in the IT industry association
BITKOM, he has also seen how enterprises can fail in their adoption of Big
Data, for instance where business alignment or executive sponsorship is
missing.
DEVELOPING A MODERN ENTERPRISE DATA STARTEGY
Prerequisite knowledge
Big Data and Data Science have great potential for accelerating business, but
how do you reconcile the business opportunity within the sea of possible
technical solutions?
Fundamentally, data should serve the strategic imperatives of a business-
—those key strategic aspirations that define the future vision for an organisa-
tion. A data strategy should guide your organization in two key areas—which
actions your business should take to get started with data, and where to start
to realise the most value.
In this tutorial, we will explain how we work to solve real business challenges
with data, including the following topics:
Why have a data strategy?
Connecting data with business.
Devising a data strategy.
The data value chain.
The potential of new technologies such as Hadoop, Spark and NoSQL.
Target architectures.
Developing new competencies across the organization.
Getting organized to execute your strategy.

12.20 Driving Strategy Execution Using Big Data Analytics
Poor strategy execution has been one of the major challenges facing leadership teams. Although
the balanced scorecard (BSC) has proved to be a framework that can minimise the risks
associated with strategy success, companies still struggle to identify reasons for low perfor-
mance and understand the correlation between causes and effects of strategic assumptions.
Case studies will be presented to illustrate how the concept works in practice, alongside a
new approach that shows how utility companies can benefit from analytics.

09.05 Opening Remarks from the Chairperson
09.19 Big Data Analytics for Cyber Security
Hosted by Dr Satyam Priyadarshy – A globally recognised leader in Big Data and Data Science.
Currently, Chief Data Scientist with Halliburton.
The convergence of five technology revolutions has increased attention towards cyber securi-
ty and Big Data. The last decade has seen an ever-increasing number of data breaches and
attacks, even though the number of tools and technologies deployed by organisations to
capture and address cyber attacks has grown significantly.
Many industries are looking for deployment of Sensors, IoTs, M2M, and Drones etc for various
business reasons. Big Data has become an integral part of these emerging technology deploy-
ments, and also provides a bigger and wider area for cyber attacks. In this talk we discuss
how the seven pillars of Big Data will provide predictive power to address and prevent these
cyber attacks. A brief review of use cases related to DoS attacks will be discussed.
