Market Place Our team’s Marketplace design is based on history of Seattle. In
the early years, Seattle’s economy relied heavily on the timber
industry, shipping logs and milled timber. Seattle itself was a place
of wooden buildings until the Great Fire of June 6, 1889. However,
the city was quickly recovered and rebuilt in just about a year
and has been growing ever since.
The Marketplace is located at 200 Ocidental in the heart of
Pioneer Square, which is full of historic places, right next to Seattle
downtown. Therefore, our target is creating a retail experience
that embodies the essence of Seattle by conveying Seattle’s
past and present relationship with LUMBER.
We created three- level- floor- plan with the main circulation path
between levels are ramps to express the transition between past
to present and vice versa. Each level also has different architectural
wood framing method: post and beam, balloon and platform,
which emphasizes the use of lumber through history.
Poject Description
200 Occidental is an innovative
mixed use development from Urban
Visions located in Pioneer Square,
Seattle.
Our team project is using the 1st
floor plan to design a marketplace
concept that is contextual to its
location.
After that, each person picks a
desired location inside the
maketplace floor plan to design
a retail store that is related to
marketplace.
Seattle is also considered the most sustainable city in
United States. Therefore, our rental clients would be mainly
anyone who carries green, sustainable, artisanal, local-made,
organic products and everything in between. We also
want to spread out the idea of sustainable living around
the world since the majority of the Marketplace’s
customers are tourists.
Leasing Plan
Brand Strategy
a sealed transparent globe
or similar container in which
plants are grown.
Terrarium can be used as decorated planting object
for indoor and outdoor spaces without taking lots of
space, or requiring time consuming, and it can be
environmental friendly by using recycled or reused
products.
Anyone, age range from kid to senior, lower class to
upper class, interesting in plants but does not have
time to take care of it, or does not have green thumbs,
or does not have enough space, can virtually design
their own unique terrariums which fit their budgets,
tastes, and places, or have it physically done by
terrarium artists.
Customers can interact with newest technology such
as virtual design software, 3D scanner, touchscreen,
interactive wall… to design their own terrarium. They
can either choose the available containers or their own
containers (can be any recycled or reused glass
container). They can also design it on their devices or
through the store’s website, and have it made and
shipped to their locations.
Design It Yourself
terrariums
When customers first walk through the door, there will be a gallery space which carries a
wide range collection of terrariums and accessories. Customers will be friendly greeted and
assisted by store employees to the needed area. After the gallery space, there will be
interactive walls that customers can design their own terrariums, learn information about
terrariums, and have a general idea of what the store is about. After the interactive wall
space is the workshop space where customers can build the terrariums that they virtually
designed in store with the assistance of terrarium knowledgeable experts. Customers will
be guided step by step through the touch interactive screen table or by assistants. After
finishing creating terrarium, each one will be 3D scanned and saved in customer’s profile,
so that customers can log in the app just by taking picture of their terrarium, and it will be
easier to get assistant through the phone since experts also have the view of the terrarium.
Customers can also design the terrarium at home, then send the information to the store,
and make appointment to build it in the store’s workshop.
The store offers a wide range of products (plant’s types, pots…) and accessories that are
compatible with terrariums. We also offer free maintenance in the first year for nearby customers.
We want to assure that all customers, regardless of terrarium knowledge level, leave the store
happily and confidently. We want customers to feel that they always learn something new every
time they visit the store and always want to come back.
Everyone is special and has their own stories, so does the object. We want
customers bring their own stories into creating those meaningful and
memorable terrariums, and use those newly made terrariums to be the
triggers of new coming stories.
By creating a terrarium, your creativity and
patient also will be improved. You will gain more knowledge, give more care
and appreciation towards the nature.
The store is all about the terrarium.
Therefore, I want customers to feel
like they are walking into an actual
terrarium and they are miniature
human just like when people walk
into an aquarium. The concept is
cylinders terrarium that were
vertically cut in half to be exposed
and explored its internal landscape.
This process will creat several semi
cylinder spaces which yield the
feeling of surrounding. Each space
is the shelving system which display
each element needed to create a
terrarium in gallery space. Each
green column’s role is playing as
plant inside the terrarium.
