Shark Attack Survivors Warn Mick Fanning Faces Tough Times
1. NIGHTMARE
ATJAWSBAY

SHARK attack survivors say Gold Coast surf hero Mick
Fanning will be forever haunted by his close encounter
with a great white in South Africa.
Fanning fought for his life during the attack at
Jeffreys Bay, punching the shark after it
knocked him from his board during the
final of the J-Bay Open on Sunday
night Australian time.
Southport surfer Jono Beard
was bitten on the left thigh at
Fingal in January 2009 and
said like him, the three-time
world champion might
benefit from counselling.
“It’s always with you – in
the water and out of the
water,” he said.
“I think about it every
day.” REPORTS P4-7
