2) This non – observance of rules, standards, or
patterns is termed as “DEVIANCE”.

of the community is expected to follow.

enacted law.

that may be prosecuted by the state and is
punishable by law is called crime.
• Norms are rules and expectations by which members of
society are conventionally guided. Deviance is an absence
of conformity to these norms.
