2. Attendance rates have decreased in the last
few years
In 2007-2008 school year, there was a 97.3%
attendance rate
In 2014-2015, the percentage was only
92.9%
An attendance plan needs to be implemented
in order for the rates to go back up
3. This partnership should be very involved and
collaborative
Students are only permitted to miss class with
a valid excuse written by a parent or doctor
No unexcused absences will be permitted
Teachers, principals, parents, and the
community will work together
4. Students who have better attendance are
more likely to have higher achievement
(Guskey, 2013).
Students who are in class on a regular basis
will do better in school than those who miss
school
When students are in class, they are able to
retain the material better, and the teachers
do not have to reteach due to so many
students being absent
5. First strategy is to recognize signals from
students who may be slipping in school or
have a different attitude than in previous
years
Second strategy is to keep track of all
attendance; principals and secretaries will
need to monitor as well
Last strategy is to discuss this plan with all
students and parents to make sure everyone
is aware of the regulations
6. Meet with parents and community
Discuss plan with students
Monitor attendance daily
Watch out for struggling students
Compare attendance rates after every grading period
Compare attendance rates with those from last year
to determine whether the plan worked effectively
Reward students with two or less absences each
grading period. After-school detention will be given
to students each time they break the rule; the parents
will have to figure out a way to pick their child up
since they allowed their child to miss school without
a valid reason.
7. After looking at both sets of data, the school
will be able to determine whether or not the
goals were met
Teachers and parents will be held
accountable for ensuring attendance is taken
and that students are in class when they
should be
Test scores and grades will be analyzed from
last year and this year
Was this plan a success based on the data
results?
8. Are there any suggestions to make this plan
more effective?
Do you think attendance is imperative when it
comes to school and achievement? Please
explain.
Everyone must come together to see the
importance of ensuring why kids should be in
school rather than staying at home or
skipping to go to other places
