Freshmen at Lipscomb University embraced the tradition of April Fools' pranks, with some students engaging in elaborate pranks on their roommates. Kacey Kemper pranked her roommate Katie Sperry by putting her personal items in Jell-O and wrapping her side of the room in plastic wrap. Though surprised, Sperry was impressed with the effort and got revenge by dumping ice water on Kemper in the shower. Another student, Kinzie Icayan, pranked her roommate Avery Franklin by wrapping hair around their doorknob, making Avery gag. Icayan also sent her mentor a box containing all her undergarments through campus mail.
1. Lipscomb freshmen welcome an excuse for pranks
Swiping a friend’s unmentionables and suspending personal items in Jell-O were just a few of the
pranks that students cooked up for April Fools’ Day at Lipscomb.
For freshmen, it was an immersion into a whole new world of collegiate pranking.
Freshman Kacey Kemper said she made a list of practical jokes to play on her roommate the week
before April 1.
“It’s way easier to prank people’s stuff because we all live on one campus,” Kemper said, smiling
slyly. “I put some of my roommate’s personal items in Jell-O and wrapped most of her half of the
room in Saran Wrap.”
After completing her devious acts in the wee hours of the morning, Kemper crept away. Her
roommate, Katie Sperry, awakened that morning to quite a few surprises.
“I spent so much time unwrapping everything that was covered in plastic!” Sperry said. “Kemper has
a pretty spunky personality, so I wasn’t surprised that she pranked me, but I was also quite impressed
that she was able to keep all the scheming a secret.”
Sperry was sure to pay back her roommate within the day, dumping a bucket of ice water over her
head in the shower. The pair agreed not to start a prank war, containing their friendly joking to April
Fools’ Day.
Another freshman, Kinzie Icayan, spent the day executing her own list of tricks.
“I started by cleaning out my hairbrush and wrapping the hairs around my doorknob; Avery hates
hair on things,” Icayan said, explaining her roommate’s repulsion to loose hairs.
Avery Franklin was less than impressed with Icayan’s trickery.
“I didn’t see it in the dark,” Franklin said. “But, I felt it, and I gagged.”
Franklin has not repaid her roommate’s favor.
Icayan did not stop with her roommate. She also took advantage of the campus mail system and sent
her mentor—who wishes to remain unnamed—all of her undergarments in a flat-rate box.
“I brought them to my dorm and put them in a package,” Icayan said. “I told [the post office] they
had to be sure to send an email to her that day so she wouldn’t go without her undies all week!”
