PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Forbes MediaCritic Senior Editor, Bedminster, NJ (1990-1996)
Recognized as a founding editor of this national-circulation, quarterly magazine examining the quality of news coverage. The
magazine evolved from the highly regarded MediaGuide, an annual reference book that also analyzed media coverage.
• Executed transformation of annual reference book (MediaGuide) into a national-circulation magazine (Forbes
MediaCritic). Pitched magazine concept and vision to Steve and Tim Forbes. Oversaw transition of staff and resources
to new ownership and job descriptions. Established editorial guidelines and processes for new magazine. Launched first
Macintosh-based publication at Forbes.
• Managed full-time staff of six plus numerous freelance writers and editors through all aspects of editorial cycle.
Responsible for quality of final editorial product.
• Oversaw $800,000 annual editorial budget.
• Worked closely with editor, Supreme Court Scholar Terry Eastland, on editorial direction and vision for magazine, issue
and story development as well as art and publication design.
• Accountable for editing at least fifty percent of magazine’s content. Also wrote at least one major article for most issues.
Topics include business, finance, economics, politics, health care, and scientific controversies. Many articles led to
increased publicity, awards and requests for interviews and speeches.
• Cultivated professional relationships with many well-known freelance writers across the country. Managed their
freelance experience with Forbes MediaCritic from story generation to final published article.
• Promoted four times in a six-year period, starting as an associate editor at MediaGuide and working my way up to a top
management position at Forbes MediaCritic magazine.
Embassy of Saudi Arabia News Analyst, Washington, DC (1989-1990)
• Created, edited and wrote articles for a weekly in-house publication designed to keep Saudi diplomats abreast of current
events and media coverage in the United States.
• Wrote special reports on how Saudi Arabia and its leadership were viewed by U.S. news outlets.
• First woman ever hired for this position.
United States Peace Corps Teacher/Trainer, Taroudant, Morocco (1986-1988)
• Trained a staff of 30 Moroccan women to practice child-development and health-care techniques at an orphanage.
• Conducted all instruction in Arabic and French.
• Taught English to Moroccan high-school students.
• Established new Peace Corps teaching position at local school for blind children.
WHAS-TV Reporter/Intern, Louisville, KY (1984)
• Reported more than 20 on-air stories for the evening newscast of local CBS affiliate.
• Promoted from intern to paid staff intern after only six months and before graduating from college.
