1. VAN GOGH LANDSCAPES
(Wheatfield with Cypresses)
These are skies of wildness,
fields of disturbed sensibility.
There can be no tranquillity
in the soul of a man
whose paintbrush is fraught
with the shapes of the storm.
Clouds are creamed whorls of unease.
The hills breathe asthmatically
and wind-frazzled trees flail
or start, dismayed, skyward.
These jaundiced fields sweat
with the heat of madness.
