With more than 30 years of experience
as a REALTOR®
, broker and manager,
Seattle TopAgent Karen McKnight has
a career filled with achievements and
memories. She recalls how she com-
muted 45 minutes, three times a week,
to take classes to get her real estate
license. “I received my license in 1978,”
she says. “But I didn’t activate it and start selling until
1983.” As the saying goes, the rest is history, and Karen’s
impressive career is a testament to skill, attitude and hard
work.
She now serves the east side of Seattle, including the cities
of Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Redmond and Sammamish
with a full range of residential real estate services.
Karen’s years of industry experience mean she has
worked—and been successful—during all types of market
conditions. “I started in a buyers’market,” she recalls. “And
I’ve been through a few peak sellers’ markets, additional
buyers’ markets and of course the most recent financial
crisis.” She credits her flexibility and willingness to learn
with allowing her to adapt to each type of market and the
unique challenges each one generates.
One thing that stays consistent regardless of market status is
Karen’s commitment to working her ‘have met’ database.
“These are the people I have met through networking, being
active in organizations, referrals from past clients, and
referrals from other REALTORS®
,” she says. “Staying in
touch allows me to work with a diverse selection of clients
from first-time home buyers to move-up buyers to estates,
to seniors who are downsizing.”
Karen’s clients routinely cite her extensive industry
knowledge, excellent negotiation skills, attention to detail
and ability to problem solve as qualities that set her apart
from other agents. “Above all else, I listen very well to
what my clients need,” Karen says. “And I have access to
so many resources—no matter what comes up I can find
someone to help,” she continues. “I worked as a super-
vising broker for five years, and I’ve seen just about
everything that can happen during a transaction.”
Currently working in a sellers’ market, Karen is noticing
an increase in multiple offer situations—and is proud to
say she and her clients come out on top in most of them.

“I go the extra mile and do everything I can to create
great rapport with the listing agent so they’ll choose me,”
she says.
Karen appreciates that real estate is a career of limitless
opportunities, dependent only upon her willingness and
ability to work hard for herself and her clients. “I love
that I control my own schedule and can continue to work
for as long as I’d like,” she says. “Every client and every
transaction is different, it keeps me on my toes!”
A strong believer in continuing education, Karen taught a
class on listing and marketing properties to other agents for
eight years and actually co-wrote the class curriculum for
the topic for a national organization.
Going forward she would like to pursue the Senior Real
Estate Specialist (SRES) designation as well as a Keller-
Williams global designation to better serve the tech-rich
area’s large influx of residents from Asia and India. She
also has plans to start using video as a consistent
communication and marketing tool.
Karen’s seven grandchildren live in the area, and she
loves spending as much time as she can with them. She
also enjoys relaxing by tending her flower garden,
reading non-fiction books related to finance and personal
growth and indulging in one of her favorite pursuits:
international travel.
