Opening StatementThroughout the ages the portrayal of men in art and design has evolved in many ways. One theme we have observed is the definition of masculinity as being portrayed through material success as opposed to strength.

14th and 15th CenturyThis figure shows the male as being physically fit. In this time period he would be able to provide for his family through hunting and fighting, not through financial wealth.
