Catherine
Brooks,
a
Buffalo
native,
will
graduate
in
May
2015
with
her
Bachelor
of
Arts
in
Psychology.
During
her
final
year
of
college,
she
completed
two
internships,
one
with
the
C.O.U.R.T.S.
Program
at
Buffalo
City
Court
and
one
with
the
Division
of
Citizen
Services
at
Buffalo
City
Hall.
Since
her
Fall
2012
semester
in
Buenos
Aires,
Argentina
she
has
been
a
strong
proponent
of
study
abroad
and
a
constant
volunteer
with
the
International
Student
Office
at
D’Youville
College.
For
the
past
two
years
she
has
also
conducted
research
on
breast
cancer
with
Dr.
Robin
Lally
in
the
Nursing
Department
at
UB.
Her
work
has
resulted
in
three
posters
and
a
published
paper.
In
addition
to
being
a
member
of
multiple
honor
societies
and
a
recipient
of
the
Psychology
Department
Award
for
Academic
Excellence
at
D’Youville
College
Catherine
was
recently
selected
for
“Who’s
Who
Among
Students
in
American
Universities
&
Colleges”
in
2015.
After
graduation
she
plans
on
teaching
English
in
South
America
for
a
year
then
returning
to
the
U.S.
to
complete
her
PhD
in
Social
Psychology.
She
hopes
to
one
day
teach
psychology
at
a
local
college
and
do
research
on
mental
health
care
reform,
programs
to
alleviate
socioeconomic
disparity,
and
police
psychology.
Originally
from
Birmingham
UK,
Juweria
is
currently
a
first
year
graduate
student
in
the
Department
of
Sociology
at
the
University
at
Buffalo.
She
hopes
to
attain
a
dual
degree
with
the
Juris
Doctorate
to
integrate
different
disciplinary
perspectives
and
specialize
in
policies
that
mitigate
economic,
gender,
and
racial
inequalities.
Juweria
completed
extensive
work
in
the
public
and
private
sectors,
served
as
an
intern
at
the
Legal
Democratic
Services
in
Birmingham
UK,.She
currently
serves
as
an
intern
at
the
Division
of
Citizen
Services
at
Buffalo
City
Hall
to
co-‐manage
city
programs
and
help
build
analytic
models
using
the
DSSG
program
to
deliver
services
more
proactively.
At
the
not-‐for-‐profit
organization
H.E.A.L
International,
Juweria
built
the
relationships
necessary
to
navigate
a
complex
culture.
In
March
2013
she
established
a
new
not-‐for-‐profit
program,

Women
Empowerment
of
Buffalo
(WEOB),
in
the
hope
of
inspiring
every
refugee
woman
with
the
courage
to
break
free
from
the
chains
of
limiting
belief
patterns
and
societal
or
religious
conditioning
that
have
traditionally
kept
them
suppressed
and
unable
to
see
their
true
capability.
Juweria
was
recognized
as
a
young
dynamic
professional
and
received
a
prestigious
award
from
the
National
Urban
League’s
“Change
makers
30
Under
30”.
Ultimately,
Juweria
hopes
to
complete
her
JD
and
PhD
and
work
as
a
public
interest
attorney
after
graduation.
Ebony
Fripp,
a
20
year
old
from
the
Bronx,
NY,
is
a
junior
at
Daemen
College
and
is
currently
working
on
her
Bachelors
in
Political
Science
with
a
minor
in
Criminal
Justice.
She
will
graduate
in
May
2016
and
plans
to
go
straight
to
graduate
school
to
pursue
her
masters
in
Political
Science.
Ebony
participates
in
the
Higher
Education
Opportunities
Program
at
Daemen
College
and
is
currently
the
secretary
of
the
Black
Student
Union
on
her
campus.
In
the
fall
semester
of
2014
Ebony
applied
and
was
chosen
to
be
a
Peer
Mentor
for
freshman's
entering
her
school.
She
says
that
the
experience
definitely
helped
strengthen
her
leadership
skills
and
that
it
was
a
joy
to
share
her
experiences
and
learned
wisdom
with
the
incoming
students.
For
the
spring
2015,
Ebony
applied
and
was
chosen
to
participate
in
the
Mayors
Urban
Fellows
internship
program
which
she
says
has
allowed
her
to
grow,
not
only
as
a
student
intern
but
as
a
potential
public
sector
worker.
She
is
currently,
and
will
continue
throughout
the
upcoming
fall
semester,
working
on
her
Undergraduate
senior
thesis,
where
she
will
be
conducting
an
explanatory
case
study
on
corruption
and
public
ethics
reform
within
New
York
State
government.

Ian
Schwarzenberg
is
a
sophomore
student
from
Manhattan,
who
is
pursuing
a
BA
in
Environmental
Design
with
a
minor
in
Architecture
at
the
University
at
Buffalo.
Ian’s
career
interests
include
sustainability
and
community
development.
He
made
it
on
the
Dean’s
List
in
his
first
semester
at
UB,
the
fall
of
2013.
Before
completing
the
Urban
Fellows
Internship
Program
in
Buffalo,
Ian
interned
with
two
local
politicians
in
New
York
City:
Manhattan
Borough
President
Gale
Brewer
and
New
York
City
Council
Member
Ben
Kallos.
In
his
internships,
he
helped
with
planning
special
events,
reaching
out
to
constituents,
and
working
on
public
outreach
projects.
His
extracurricular
activities
include
serving
on
the
e-‐board
for
the
UB
Academic
Bowl
Team.
Upon
graduation,
Ian
intends
to
go
to
graduate
school
to
obtain
a
Master’s
Degree
in
Urban
Planning.
After
this,
he
plans
on
becoming
a
certified
urban
planner.
Amy
Stanley,
an
energetic
22-‐year-‐old
Buffalonian,
is
in
her
final
year
of
undergraduate
studies
and
is
eagerly
pursuing
her
Bachelor
of
Arts
and
Science
in
Communications
with
a
concentration
in
Public
Relations.
Amy
began
her
studies
in
Ohio
at
Kent
State
University,
where
she
majored
in
Magazine
Journalism,
after
one
year
in
this
field
she
decided
it
was
in
her
best
interest
to
take
a
semester
off.
Ultimately,
Amy
transferred
back
to
Buffalo
where
she
enrolled
at
the
State
University
of
New
York
in
2012,
she
has
been
working
avidly
to
attain
her
degree
since.
Last
semester,
Amy
worked
as
a
student
intern
at
University
at
Buffalo's
Millard
Fillmore
College,
an
organization
that
offers
Certificate
Programs
and
web-‐based
seminars.
She
was
able
to
work
exclusively
with
academic
marketing,
program
coordination,
and
digital
media.
This
semester,
Amy
has
maintained
two
3-‐credit
internships.
The
first,
working
with
Refugee
Resettlement
and
Employment
Services

International
Institute
of
Buffalo.
She
truly
loves
helping
those
in
need
and
is
able
to
do
so
actively
through
this
internship.
The
second,
as
an
Urban
Fellow
at
City
Hall
in
the
Division
of
Citizen
Services.
Her
interest
in
public
policy
and
government
is
what
enticed
her
to
this
internship.
Amy
strongly
believes
that
each
of
her
internship
experiences
thus
far
have
significantly
contributed
to
define
her
ultimate
career
goals.
She
has
acquired
many
skills
through
the
on-‐site
experience
some
include;
professionalism,
program
coordinating,
event
planning,
micro-‐
managing,
and
conflict
management.
