About The Prince’s Trust
 Around one in five young people in the UK
are not in work, education or training.
 Youth unemployment costs the UK economy
£10 million a day in lost productivity, while
youth crime costs £1 billion every year.
About The Prince’s Trust
 We address this by giving practical and
financial support to the young people who
need it most, enabling them to develop key
skills, confidence and motivation; and to
move into work, education or training
 We run programmes that encourage young
people to take responsibility for themselves –
helping them build the life they choose rather
than the one with which they’ve ended up
Example: young people 10/11
Last year we achieved our East Midlands
target by supporting 4,219 young
people through our programmes
66% were educational underachievers
14% were offenders/ex-offenders
6% were in or leaving care
13% were disabled
3% were lone parents
1% were refugees/asylum seekers
15% were non-white ethnic minorities
What it meant to the young people
Get Into Customer Service with DHL
“I think the course the course
has been very helpful. It made
me realise what customer
service is. I’ve enjoyed the
course and it’s given me a lot
of information.” Lisa
“I enjoyed last week because I
wasn’t sure if I could do the job.
But now I realise that it is
something I could enjoy doing.”
Thomas
“Last week was a good week.
Very interesting, it’s
completely different to what I
thought it would be but I am
enjoying it.” Amy
What it meant to the young people
Get Into Logistics with DHL
June 2011
“I’ve enjoyed the whole
experience and hope that
it will help me to get a job
in a warehouse very
soon”
Luke Clarke
What it meant to the young people
Get Into Facilities Management with
UPP Sept 2010
“I’ve gained confidence
and experience. Being
able to do stuff and not
just standing around has
been really good. I hope
that it will help me get a
career as a technician”
Sam Newbold
Michael Collins
“I did not enjoy School and left with a couple of ‘E’ grades aged
16. I went on to have large amounts of time unemployed taking
occasional bar and call centre temp work.
In May 2011 I managed to gain a place on the Get into
Construction course whilst claiming Job Seeker’s Allowance. This
four week programme gave me support, training, a CSCS card
and real on-site work placements – one was with ‘Rilmac’
Scaffolding.
I would recommend this programme to anyone interested in the
Construction industry as it has boosted my confidence, given me
training and contacts but most importantly enabled me to find the
job with Rilmac. A job I actually see a future in!”
In addition to securing a job Michael’s hard work and motivation has
secured him a place as a finalist in Youthbuild UK’s Young Builder of
the Year Awards 2011. He is now well and truly on the road to success.
Outcomes 10/11
 83% of these achieving a positive
outcome
54% moved into employment
19% went on to further education or training
5% went on to volunteer in their local
community
 98% would recommend The Prince’s
Trust to others
 83% felt they had improved their skills
87% felt they had developed personally
183 Leicestershire Volunteers; 116
Northamptonshire Volunteers
How can you be a part
of this?
Our focus for this year is to continue to
support 4086 young people
with 80% of these achieving a positive
outcome
