Over the last 30 years I have worked in both the equestrian industry and as a project
manager. Because of the varied work I have done I have summarised my equine
work experience below.
Equestrian Experience:
• Yard Manager for International 3 day event rider and Olympic dressage rider –
18 horses – liveries, international competition horses and hunt horses.
• Head Instructor in two Riding Centres.
• Sourced horses suitable for staff and client training.
• Trained staff up to and including BHS Stage 3 and NVQ level 3 including riding,
lectures and practical sessions. Also ran stable management courses for
external clients
• Successfully trained a member of staff with dyslexia through their NVQ Level 2.
• Responsible for care of Riding school horses, Hunters, Liveries, youngstock,
competition horses and stallions including Shaab.
• Produced horses placed at Horse of the year show in Hack, Hunter and Riding
horse classes
• Organised daily running of yards, in house and annual shows including
arranging judges, entries and risk assessments.
• ODE & 3 day event groomed for Barbara Hammond(international sj & 3DE rider
and 1988 Olympic dressage rider), Rodney Powell, Jeremy Spring, & Robin
Dumas.
• Talland trained BHSAI, BHS Registered Instructor and Groom.
• Freelance work for Pony clubs, Riding clubs, private clients as well as breaking
and selling youngstock, including children’s ponies.
• Competed dressage up to Advanced Medium, show jumping at Newcomers level
and BE at pre novice. Currently teaching part time freelance and re-schooling
my new mare with the intention of qualifying for BE Grassroots.
I trained for 1 year at Talland School of Equitation, gaining my BHSAI. After that I
worked in a major showing yard and dealer’s yards, gaining experience in schooling
and producing horses. I became Head girl in a small riding school with 2 other
members of staff. A couple of years later spent a few years’ freelance teaching as
well as buying, schooling and selling youngstock. From there I became Head
Instructor in a larger school with 100 horses and a varied client base. During this time
I trained staff to BHS/NVQ standards and was responsible for the daily running of the
yard including organisation of lessons, accounts and arranging the annual show as
well as smaller in house dressage and show jumping competitions.
I next moved to Surrey to become Yard Manager for International 3 day event &
Olympic dressage rider Barbara Hammond, where I had responsibility for the running
of the yard, including arranging entries, travel, ensuring paperwork etc was up to date
as well as managing yard finances and competing myself. During this time Bar was
regularly competing as well as having horses in for rehabilitation and importing
horses from Germany which were re-schooled and sold.
I am on the BHS instructors and grooms register.
In Dec 2013 I took over a small DIY livery yard in Basingstoke with 19 acres, which
has a very low turnover of clients. Due to a change in circumstances I am now
