Ourconceptistoadda3.5mmaudiojack,auxiliaryoutput,totheiPhone7and7plus viaaphonecase.In
ourinitialdesign,wewilldosobyaddingaslimBluetoothtransceiverthattiesintothelightningporttofeed
off ofthebattery.TheBluetooth devicewillbehighefficiencyandbeina“sleepstate” unlessheadphones
arepluggedin,that’swhenthedeviceactivates.Inadditiontotheaddedfunctionalitythattheaudiojack
would add,allowingthefreedomofaconventionalphone,wewouldaiminlaterorupdatedmodelsto
possiblyadd abackupbatteryorevenaninductionchargingsystem.Bothoftheseoptionswouldfurther
justifytheaddedthicknessof thephonecaseand,again,increasefunctionality.
Theneed forsuchacaseisprevalent whenlooking intheheadlinesofits releaseorevenwatching any
review of thephone.Appleremovedtheaudiojackandonlyhavealightning port onthephonewhich
makes itcumbersomeif you wanttolistentomusicwithoutBluetoothheadphones andchargethephone
at thesametime.TheaudienceIamlookingtoconvincewouldbethenicheconsumerwhowants a
convenientsolutiontothisproblem,andIwouldreachout tothemonKickstarter.
Priceisthebiggestdesignspecificationinourminds,weareaimingforaretailpricebetween25-30dollars.
In short,wewanttocreateacasethatiscomparableinpricetoaconventionalcase,butalsobettersthe
userexperience.
Wehaveadifficult,andcostlier,methodofbuildingsuchacase,onethatinvolvestyingtheaudiojack
directlyintothelightningport.It wouldbeatoughandless immediatesolution,butwe’reconsideringitfor
alatermodel.ThebiggesthurdletocrosswouldbelicensingtheproductwithApple,it wouldcost about8
dollars aunit justtobeabletousethechipweneedandtheyoffer.Inadditiontoaddedcost,itwouldlikely
bean elongatedprocess.
