2. Illustration BA(Hons) is wide–ranging and experimental. It offers you
the freedom and individuality as an illustrator to develop your own
unique approaches to image making across a wide range of media.
Year 1: With a focus on exploration, introduce yourself to contemporary
practices in illustration by experimenting with various ideas and
materials through a range of processes. Research and experiment in the
production of your practical work, allowing debates and issues to inform
your thinking. Explore the culture of illustration with an introduction to
the discourse and debates surrounding contemporary work.
Year2:Discoverdifferenttypesofpracticethroughavarietyofmediaand
concepts,increasingindependentactivityandyourowncreativeidentity.
Become both self–reliant and self–critical, producing independent
projects and building on your own experiences in Year One. Develop an
ability to engage with a range of contexts exploring cultural theory and
current issues in both studio and professional environments.
Optional Placement Year
Final Year: Identify a subject, theme or issue in illustration and conduct
in-depth research, demonstrating your originality, pro–activity and
innovation. Utilising this research, channel your creative skill–set to
create a highly professional illustration project and portfolio. Reflect
on the theoretical, technical and professional issues of illustration,
identifying connections between the concepts of your major project.
