I am a hardcore news junkie (especially anything involving politics) and writing and reporting are my personal
passions. I dedicate myself both to my craft as a reporter, but also as a writer in general.
Authorized to work in the US for any employer
WORK EXPERIENCE
Copy Editor
The Southern Illinoisan - Lee Enterprises - Carbondale, IL - June 2015 to Present
Responsibilities
My position requires me to edit and proofread news (local, sports, nation, world) stories for style, quality,
grammatical, punctuation, capitalization, other errors, etc. I am also responsible for preparing certain stories,
daily budgets for the newspaper and for online, pages for design, etc. The news industry never sleeps and so
I have become even more accustomed to strange/long/extra shifts, as well.
Accomplishments
The knowledge I have gained while working as a copy editor has only added to my education and experience
as a reporter. As a copy editor, I am able to take an outsider's approach to a story and spot errors and
inconsistencies more easily. Being experienced in both reporting and editing has extended my knowledge and
grasp of the journalism and "doing" news in a way that has been exceedingly helpful.
Skills Used
Writing, proofreading, editing for style and space (on page and online), choosing appropriate news stories
when needed (having a "nose for news), developing a stronger social media background, etc
