Growing in God's Word is an essential key of growing in good words in the Christian life which is a powerful good influence to attract people (unchurched and unbelievers) to hear the Good News of Christ.
4. “WORDS so innocent
and powerless as they are,
as standing in a dictionary,
how potent for good and evil they
become in the hands of one who
knows how to combine them.”
-Nathaniel Hawthorne
6. PROPOSITION
When our heart is ruled by the Lord
Jesus Christ (King of kings),
our evil deeds die,
and we grow in conversation
(good words) full of God’s grace,
which can lead people to the Savior.
7. INTERROGATIVE
But how to experience the ruling of
Christ in our heart so that our evil
deeds die, and we can grow in
conversation (good words) full of God’s
grace and will have good influence on
people in order to lead them to the
Savior?
9. CENTRAL TRUTH:
From formerly sinners in our old life, God
through Christ has forgiven us and raised
us up from being spiritually dead, made us
also alive in Him, now allow Him to rule or
reign in our heart always
(3: vv1-4).
10. English (NIV): Colossians 3:1-4
1Since, then, you have been raised with
Christ, set your hearts on things above, where
Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set
your minds on things above, not on earthly
things. 3 For you died, and your life is now
hidden with Christ in God.
4 When Christ, who is your[a] life, appears, then
you also will appear with him in glory.
11. ILLUSTRATION NO.1:
“As I arise today, may the strength of God pilot
me, the power of God uphold me, the wisdom
of God guide me.
May the eye of God look before me, the ear of
God hear me, the word of God speak for me . .
.”
– St. Patrick of Ireland
(5th Century Roman-British Christian &
Missionary)
12. ILLUSTRATION NO.1:
“. . . May the hand of God protect me, the way
of God lie before me, the shield of God defend
me, the host of God save me. May Christ
shield me today . . ."
– St. Patrick of Ireland
(5th Century Roman-British Christian &
Missionary)
13. ILLUSTRATION NO.1:
“Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ
behind me, Christ in me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ
on my right, Christ on my left,Christ when I
lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ
when I arise . . ."
– St. Patrick of Ireland (5th Century Roman-
British Christian & Missionary)
14. Application 1:
Invoke every day actively through
prayer and several post of silence
through the day “God in Christ by
the Holy Spirit’s power, rule in my
soul, heart, mind, attitude, words of
conversations with people and
actions today. Amen.”
16. English (NIV): Colossians 3: 5-10
5 Put to death, therefore, whatever
belongs to your earthly nature: sexual
immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires
and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because
of these, the wrath of God is coming.
17. English (NIV): Colossians 3: 5-10
7 You used to walk in these ways, in the
life you once lived. 8 But now you must
also rid yourselves of all such things
as these: anger, rage, malice,
slander, and filthy language from
your lips.
18. English (NIV): Colossians 3: 5-10
9 Do not lie to each other, since you
have taken off your old self with its
practices 10 and have put on the
new self, which is being renewed in
knowledge in the image of its
Creator.
20. Application 2:
When we starve our old sinful
nature, it would eventually die and
when we feed our new life in Christ
and grow healthy, we can influence
people by our good words and
positive behaviors.”
22. Central Truth:
When the teachings of Christ
(Gospel) dwell in our heart
abundantly, our conversation
with people would be filled
with God’s grace.
23. Colossians 16-17
16 Let the message of Christ dwell
among you richly as you teach and
admonish one another with all
wisdom through psalms, hymns, and
songs from the Spirit, singing to God
with gratitude in your hearts.
24. Colossians 16-17
17 And whatever you do, whether
in word or deed, do it all in the
name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God the Father through
him.
25. Colossians 4:6 (NIV)
6 Let your conversation be always
full of grace, seasoned with
salt, so that you may know how to
answer everyone.
29. Application:
Fill our heart with good songs,
songs that bring the good
news of Christ, cater
transformation, deliver hope
and healing to people and can
glorify God.
30. CONCLUSION:
As we grow in God’s Word
everyday, put to the death our
evil deeds
then our good words or
conversations filled with grace
can lead people to Christ.
