President of Minnesota Mayo Clinic
John H. Noseworthy Recognizes
Color the World Orange Day
ST. PAUL, Minn.—Nov. 3, 2015—The Mayo Clinic’s President John H. Noesworthy and
former American Idol judge Paula Abdul hosted the national Color the World Orange Day at the
St. Paul Cathedral, today to highlight Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) and how it affects
millions of lives across America.
“Not many people are aware of RSD and it is time to change that,” said President
Noesworthy. “The Mayo Clinic would like to reassure the people of America that we are doing
everything in our power to create awareness for RSD. Our research has led to more information
on how to treat RSD.”
“If anything, my experience with RSD has made me empathetic and sympathetic with
anyone suffering with any kind of nerve related disorder, or with any brain, spinal cord or
neurological disorder,” said Paula Abdul. “It has made me appreciate how amazing the human
body is. Pain is something that can be conquered; realizing RSD is affecting you is the first step
to healing.”

RSD, referred to as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, is a chronic neurological
syndrome characterized by severe burning pain, tissue swelling, and extreme sensitivity to touch.
RSD has affected about 5 million people who have been in vehicle accidents.
“National Color the World Orange Day is an idea that I believe will compel the American
people to be aware of the pains and struggles that millions have gone through day in and day
out,” concluded Noseworthy.
