This document describes a new athletic shoe technology called Ektio that provides ankle support to prevent ankle sprains. It discusses ankle sprain statistics to demonstrate the problem, and then describes Ektio's internal strap and lateral support technologies. It provides testimonials and studies showing Ektio's effectiveness. Financial information is presented, along with company milestones like distribution and patents. Plans are outlined to expand into the hiking shoe market based on market research findings of ankle support needs. Funding is being sought to support design, testing, manufacturing and marketing of a new hiking shoe line.

Frankie Basile
Not having to worry about ankle injuries, helped to fully
optimize my game and play on a level that allowed me
to finish this season 2nd on Lond Island for scoring
Juliette Gauthier
Its my third year wearing the Ektio shoes, the third
generation Alexio model is incredible. It gives me the
confidence to play at a higher level. Since putting on
the Post-up shoe bask in 2013, I've never suffered
another spain on my ankle.

8. Conclusions from Pilot Study
Drexel Univ.
The results indicate that the new shoe provides restriction of inversion comparable to a
standard basketball shoe with a brace. However, the new shoe was found to have no
restriction of motion in any of the other directions, unlike braces. Also for the one subject tested
with a lace-on brace, it was found that the new shoe provided the same amount of inhibition of
inversion as the lace-on brace. However, the interference of the new shoe with motion in all
other directions ,particularly in internal rotation, was smaller than that of the lace-on brace.

9. Hospital for Special
Surgery Study
Tested athletes barefoot and with
basketball shoes with and without
tape doing basketball related
activities such as running, jumping
and cutting.
Study performed by Dr. Howard Hillstrom
Tested kinetics, kinematics and
muscle firing patterns.
Overall, for activities routinely
executed in basketball, the test
shoe performed similarly to barefoot
or conventional footwear both with
and without taping.
This indicates that despite the ankle
support that the Ektio shoe gives
(by limiting inversion of the shoe)
that overall ankle range of motion
and kinetics compare favorably to
current shoes with or without tape.

Milestones
6 Year Success Rate
In 6 years, the incidence of ankle sprains in
customers wearing the shoe has been almost non-
existent. We have had almost unanimous success in
keeping players from spraining their ankle. Ektio has
been able to protect ankles in the most demanding
sport where ankle injuries are most prevalent,
basketball.
