renovate the Los Angeles River project.

The Army Corp of Engineers has
signed on to a re-invigoration project
of the Los Angeles River, known as
Alternative 20, a $1 billion proposal to
renovate and restore the historic river
to its original greenbelt state. The
Army Corps is the main custodian of
the river and their support for the proj-
ect will provide a major boost in efforts
to secure the funding from Congress.
First a little history, during the early
part of the 1900’s the river was an
untamed natural resource that sat
dormant most of the year, but would
run wild during periods of high rainfall.
Annually many people would drown
during these times of intense flood-
ing and the property damage would
be extensive. Along came the Army
Corp who tamed the beast by turning
the river into a long ribbon of concrete
that would channel high levels of rain
runoff into the Pacific Ocean.
The problem was solved but the
aftermath was a civic eyesore and
an embarrassment to local officials.
How often have you been somewhat
ashamed to show out-of-town visi-
tors our medicore LA River? In recent
times agencies such as Friends of
the River, the LA City Council and the
Mayor’s office have been advocating
for returning the river to it’s original
state while still maintaining a flood
control safety plan.
The City had several plans that
were presented to the Army Corp for
their approval and participation, and
they accepted the most ambitious of

Hair Designing 101 [ 16 hours / 2 days ]
Partings, Finger Waving and Pin Curling
Four partings, three techniques of finger waving and four techniques of pin curling.
Partings, pin curls and finger waves are the foundation to period hair styling.
Hair Designing 102 [ 16 hours / 2 days ]
Hot Rollers and Electric Curling Irons
Hot rollers, placement, size, direction and setting patterns. Curling iron types and
techniques. Flat irons and GHD curling irons.
Hair Designing 103 [ 16 hours / 2 days ]
Brush and Blow Dryer
You will learn how to choose the correct styling products based on hair type, how to
section and prep the hair for blow drying. Various techniques of blow drying utilizing
different types and sizes of hair brushes to create various styles. The effects of heat
and cooling techniques on the hair. Finished styling.
Hair Designing 104 [ 16 hours / 2 days ]
Finish Work Hairdressing
Styling tools and products. Back brushing, back combing. Wet and dry styling design,
and balance.
Hair Designing 105 [ 24 hours / 3 days ]
The Updo: Comb Out Styling Techniques and Braiding.
Retro...glamour...to current updo design. Stunning brides and braids.
Hair Designing 106 [ 24 hours / 3 days ]
Wig Work and Hair Extensions
Tools, purchasing, lace wigs, fitting and adjustments, wig blocking, wig dressing, wig
application, cleaning lace front wigs, cleaning solutions, wig washing, removal
methods, applying thee different types of hair extensions.
Hair Designing 107 [ 16 hours / 2 days ]
Women’s Period Hair Styling (1920s - 1930s)
Studying the past to create the future. This class will teach you the techniques
necessary to create several women’s hairstyles from the 1920s–1930s. Students will
learn the China doll bob, how to master marcel irons, finger waves and pin curls.
Hair Designing 108 [ 16 hours / 2 days ]
Women’s Period Hair Styling (1940s)
Studying the past to create the future. Students will learn the skills necessary to
create various 1940s women’s hairstyles in addition to the history of hair design
during that period.

MAKEUP FOR HIGH-DEFINITION MEDIA
Makeup 301 [ 24 hours / 3 days ]
Corrective Beauty Makeup for High-Definition/All Media
Lecture: Corrective beauty makeup, Students will gain an understanding of high
definition technology in addition to skilled make-up application for women, men and
children; color theory; and extensive product knowledge.
Makeup 302 [ 16 hours / 2 days ]
People of Color (varoius skin tones)
In this class students will get a thorough understanding of the biology of skin tone.
Students will acquire a thorough understanding of skin, its tonal variations from fair to
deep, its varied characteristics, color mixing and correcting solutions.
Makeup 303 [ 16 hours / 2 days ]
Airbrushing
In this class students will learn industry trends on applying makeup with the use of
airbrush techniques; beauty make-up, body make-up, tanning and character make-up
along with how to match skin tone, highlight and contour on live models.
Makeup 304 [ 16 hours / 2 days ]
Period Makeup (1920s–1930s)
Students will gain an understanding of 1920’s-1930’s style makeup application and
the history of the time that influenced its development. Students will also study the
development of products that aided the creation of such looks.
Makeup 305 [ 16 hours / 2 days ]
Period Makeup (1940s–1950s)
Students will gain an understanding of 1940’s-1950’s style makeup application and
the history of the time that influenced its development. Students will also study the
development of products that aided the creation of such looks.

Period Makeup (1960s–1970s)
Students will gain an understanding of 1960’s-1970’s style makeup application and
the popular history of the time that influenced its development. Students will also study

Terms and Policies: All classes are limited to a maxi-
mum of 15 students. Registrations are accepted on a first
come, first serve basis. Payment required with registra-
tion.Tuition is refunded in full if cancelled in writing within
48 hours of registration. Cancellations up to two weeks
prior to first class are refunded at 75% of tuition. Cancella-
tions up to one week prior to first class are refunded 50%
of tuition. No refunds for cancellation less than one week
before first class, or after classes have begun. Classes
curriculum subject to change without notice. Registration
is nontransferable. Students receive a Certificate of Com-
pletion for each class, and students who complete the en-
tire hair or makeup curriculum receive the Jody Lawrence
School or Hair and Makeup Certificate of Accreditation.

The Army Corps is the main custodian of the river and their support for the proj- ect will provide a major boost in efforts to secure the funding from Congress. First a little history, during the early part of the 1900’s the river was an untamed natural resource that sat dormant most of the year, but would run wild during periods of high rainfall. Annually many people would drown during these times of intense flood- ing and the property damage would be extensive. Along came the Army Corp who tamed the beast by turning the river into a long ribbon of concrete that would channel high levels of rain runoff into the Pacific Ocean. The problem was solved but the aftermath was a civic eyesore and an embarrassment to local officials. How often have you been somewhat ashamed to show out-of-town visi- tors our medicore LA River? In recent times agencies such as Friends of the River, the LA City Council and the Mayor’s office have been advocating for returning the river to it’s original state while still maintaining a flood control safety plan.
