I have been getting the ACA question a lot from my network recently. Wanted to provide a very basic presentation on what it means for a business crossing the 50 employee mark.

• Employers with 50 or more full-time employees must
offer those workers and dependents the chance to enroll
in minimum essential coverage under an employer-
sponsored plan.
3. What is “full time” under ACA?
• Working at least 30 hours per week or 130 hours in a
calendar month. A special rule covers “seasonal workers”
and others not continuously employed.
4. What is Affordable Coverage?
• The employee’s required contribution for self-only
coverage is not allowed to exceed 9.69% of their
household income for the taxable year.
5. What is the Penalty?
• No Minimum Essential Coverage
• $2,260 per full-time employee
• Inadequate Health Plan:
• $3,390 per full-time employee
