2. Tech & Learning
Many of your research
projects will include visual
information, such as:
photographs
charts
maps
diagrams
drawings
3. Tech & Learning
You can find lots of visual
information on the Internet.
But everything you see on the
Internet is not available for
public use. It is not okay to
use images without
permission of the owner!
4. Tech & Learning
You need special
permission from the
writer or artist to use
images and text that
is copyrighted.
Creative Commons enables
you to use and share work
created by others. You do not
need to ask for special
permission to use Creative
Commons material. However,
you still need to give credit for
the material you use.
5. Tech & Learning
Anything that is part of Creative
Commons is okay to include in
your school projects. You can
find images that are okay to use
by using the phrase “Creative
Commons” in
front of your search term.
6. Tech & Learning
Let’s look for images of
butterflies. We will use the
search terms “Creative
Commons” and “butterflies.”
7. Tech & Learning
Go to Google. Type
“Creative Commons” and
“butterflies” in the search
bar.
Press the magnifying
glass icon to search the
Internet.
8. Tech & Learning
You can select the type of information
you want to find. You are looking for
images. Choose the Images option and
press Enter.
9. Tech & Learning
Move the scroll bar
with your mouse
to view all of the
photos. Select the
one that best
supports your
research and
writing.
A selection of images will appear on
the screen.
11. Tech & Learning
Choose a name for
your image. Be sure to
leave the jpg
extension at the end
of the name. Then
decide where you
want to save the
image. This picture of
the butterfly is being
saved to the Pictures
File. Finally,
click Save.
13. Tech & Learning
To use your image, open the program you want to
use. Then find your picture and click on it.
Then click “Insert”
at the bottom of the
screen.
14. Tech & Learning
Your image will
appear in the
document,
program, or
slideshow you are
creating.
15. Tech & Learning
This concludes today’s tutorial.
Tomorrow, you will learn how
to use information and cite
sources.
