4. Our Neighbourhood Lunch Program is just one
example of how we are lending a helping hand to our
community. Since its inception in February 2013,
the PaySavvy team has come together once a month
on Saturday mornings to prepare thousands of lunches
and serve them to those in need in the Downtown
Eastside. In 2013, PaySavvy exceeded its goal of
delivering 5000 lunches. By the end of 2014, we have
pledged to deliver 6000 lunches.
We have also partnered with the Ronald McDonald
House BC to help build their new $31 million house.
Located in Vancouver, the new home will provide room
for up to 73 families, making this the second-largest
Ronald McDonald House project in Canada.

BuildDirect was growing quickly in 2013. To help manage this growth, Project Manager Leyla Johnson was
looking for a payroll system that would be easier, faster, and offer better reporting. Their ADP system offered
restricted reporting that was only exportable to PDF, making the reports relatively unusable.
PaySavvy approached Jeff Booth, CEO of BuildDirect, in May 2013. He mentioned that they “had looked
into something similar before, but the functionality that was needed was not available.” When Johnson saw
a demonstration of our system she found that “PaySavvy was appealing because of [the] flexibility, ease of

PaySavvy was able to provide cloud software to BuildDirect that is flexible, fully functional, and offered the
import and export capabilities that they were looking for. Many accountants still rely on Excel for aspects of
their job. Being able to export payroll data from PaySavvy into Excel, make changes and then import back
in, is one of the most-used features for BuildDirect. “It’s very easy to put the data into Excel, make changes
and make sure everything matches up,” says Jayde Smith, Senior Accountant at BuildDirect. Improving the
existing workflows of customers is a high priority for PaySavvy.
Smith spends about one day every two weeks managing payroll-related tasks for their employees, even with
a large amount of new employees and terminations. The PaySavvy system can pull the information from a
spreadsheet, so that data entry happens only once.
When asked how PaySavvy compares to other payroll software, Smith had this to say:
It’s on the Internet so I can access it anywhere. I love
that it can export to Excel and that it’s so flexible.
Other systems are not very flexible, they don’t allow
you to edit data, and they only export to PDF.

Prior to onboarding with PaySavvy, Lalindra Anthony, Director of Finance for International Pacific Sales, was
searching for a payroll solution that was cloud-based so that he wouldn’t be tied to his computer in order to
review and approve his payroll.
Most importantly, Anthony was looking for a payroll solution that was simple. Anthony had found that fixing
any mistakes or oversights when submitting payroll with ADP was “a cumbersome process.” Instead, Anthony
wanted to be able to control his payroll run up to the point of submitting.

PaySavvy’s onboarding process is designed

while feeling well supported moving through

25. 1—DIscovery meeting
The purpose of the discovery meeting is to assess the current payroll practices
and to recommend a solution based on the client’s industry best practices.
2—product demonstration
A product demonstration is used to confirm that the recommended solution is
well-suited for the client.
3—proposal
A formal, detailed service proposal describes the PaySavvy practices,
solutions, and features.
4—Electronic Agreement
A service contract is executed upon the client’s acceptance of the proposal
5—implementation
An Implementation Specialist and a Client Success Manager are assigned
to the client to coordinate the implementation process and training.
The client is provided with a detailed implementation plan outlining the
process step-by-step with appropriate timelines. PaySavvy handles the
majority of the implementation. There is very little required from the client.
6—Testing and Training
Once the system is fully implemented and tested for quality and accuracy,
training commences. This takes place, based on the client’s preference, at
the client’s site, via WebEx, or at PaySavvy offices.
7—Go live
A parallel payroll run is conducted to ensure PaySavvy results match those
of the client’s incumbent system and meet all compliance requirements.
Once the results are approved by the client, they go live.
30-day review
The final onboarding step is a 30 day review with the client to ensure success
and address any concerns.
