My main working background has been in the field of mental health recovery, mental health
promotion, anti stigma campaign, homeless crisis intervention. Within mental health recovery the
concept of Peer support is valued and I have been involved in supporting a carers group. My roles
in the past have given me experience in running social groups (for groups of people who have
mental health conditions) with the view to creating natural supports amongst peers. I have always
beeninvolvedinreviewingthesegroupstoensure theycontinue tobe effective.
In the different roles I’ve worked in, I have developed a broad range of work skills, communication at
all levels, training others including volunteers for the organisation, leadership and supervisory
experience of staff, administrative skills, collating reports using IT and Microsoft packages e.g. Excel
and Word. I have finance experience e.g.handlingpettycash,invoicing,managingstaff budgets.
I was required to collate statistical information, input into a database and send to our financial
department, working to a deadline. I have completed Information and Communication Technology
SCQFlevel 5 in2014. I have beeninvolvedincoordinatingtrainingforvolunteers.
I have knowledge and interest in legislation e.g. anti discrimination and equal opportunities, have
been involved in the development of guidelines and implication of. I am personally interested in
furthering my development and attending any relevant training. Working for such roles has led me
to be involvedinfundraisingalso.
My Union Role has developed my knowledge of working policies and experienced in the Advocacy
role supporting employees, in addition I have been and am an advocate for my daughter who has a
disability.
