This letter is to formally recognise Jung-Ho Ho as a participant of the Griffith G20 Scholars Program.
To mark Brisbane’s hosting of the 2014 G20 Leaders’ Summit, Griffith University called for
expressions of interest from undergraduate and postgraduate students for the opportunity to
participate in the “G20 Scholars Program.” A total of 129 applications were received, comprising an
essay on one of several themes associated with challenges facing the G20. Twenty students were
selected as G20 Scholars, representing a variety of nations, and coming from various academic
disciplines across the wider University.
The Scholars, as well as developing a number of ideas in groups that they would “pitch” to the leaders
of the G20 to deal with contemporary global issues, participated in a number of events and activities
related to the G20 and some especially designed for the Scholars. These included:
Official launch of the Griffith G20 Scholars Program
Griffith Asia Institute Perspective Forum: Asia Retrospective
Induction Workshop for Griffith G20 Scholars Program
Opportunity to present at the Griffith Student Leadership Conference
Griffith G20 Summit Street Breakfast
G20 Brisbane Pre-Summit Conference
G20 Interfaith Conference
Exclusive access to lectures and workshops hosted by Griffith University in the lead up to the
G20 Summit including leading academic experts within Griffith University who offered insights
into the G20 Summit and its global impact
As well as meeting and discussing issues and ideas from the range of perspectives that comprised the
group, the G20 Scholars were mentored by academics from relevant areas of Griffith University. The
Scholars’ commitment to learning more about the global issues of our time, as well as engaging in
discussions and developing ideas designed to move us towards solutions to some of those issues,
was much appreciated by all involved in the Program. This was an extracurricular activity and all were
undertaking full time study as well throughout the year. The standard of applications for the Program
was high, and this was evident in the level of discussion throughout the year. All participants
demonstrated a willingness to learn from each other, and from the various academics they engaged
with throughout the Program. Despite each coming from a particular academic discipline and
perspective, debate and discussion throughout the year was characterised by a willingness to listen
and learn from each other, whilst each Scholar was also prepared to argue in defence of their own
ideas and opinions.
On behalf of Griffith University, I thank each Scholar for their participation in this Program over the
past months.
Yours sincerely
