United Airlines Annual Safety Fair August 2015 issue 1
1. Molina from Rideshare, Nancy Price from ELUP, and volunteer student intern,
Asia Antoniuk from the Air Force Academy, to participate and provide information
about LAWA’s EnvironmentalProgramsto interested safety fair attendees. Most
of the inquirieswere about LAWA’s recycling programat LAX. We informed them
that approximately 10,000 tons of pavementwasrecycled in 2013 and that LAWA
recyclesconcrete, construction debris, metal, cardboard, wooden pallets,
plastics, aluminum, glass, paper, and green waste.
United Airlines operatesmore than 150 daily flights out of LAX and employees
about 4,800 employeesin the Los Angelesarea. The major types of injuries that
United Airlines employeeshad last year were sprainsand strains so they
introduced a Slip, Trip, and Fall educational programin 2014 to preventthose
types
of injuries.
LAWA congratulates LAX’s United Airlines employeesfor receiving the Start The
Airline Right (STAR) Trophyfor June 2015. Thismonthly award isbased on
getting designated flights out on-time while focusing on safety. Thisis a
corporate award for United Airlines employeesthat have proven to be a team-
driven accomplishment. Airport Operationsand other key operating groupssuch
as Flight Operations, Inflight, and Tech Operations must worktogether,
communicate and execute on a solid pre-planning basis. —Nancy Price—
