The core mission and business of higher education includes the creation of
knowledgethrough research, the transmission of knowledgeto learners, and the
translation of knowledgeinto action for society’s benefit, and the coremission
rationale advocates strongly for an institutional vision that mainstream student
access to global content and talent (J. Hudzik and J. S. M, 2012). Onestrategy to
achieve the core mission is to integrate international students into campus and
classroomlearning environments. Internationalstudents bring cross-cultures and
transnationalviews to domestic students, which helps domestic student become
knowledgeable for the global issues and more competent in a global marketplace.
In order to attract talented students who are already admitted to a university
abroad, transfer programs with foreign institutions have gained numerous
interests among U.S. Institutions. This session mainly intends to provide a step by
step instruction on initiating a transfer program with foreign institutions and
introduce how different campus units get involved in the process. The CHEPD
(Cooperation on Higher Education and ProfessionalDevelopment) 1+2+1, a well-
managed transfer programwith intense quality student services will be used as an
example about how a transfer programis created, maintained and brings global
awareness to a university as a whole.
Ways of maintaining the partnerships and sustaining this transfer program willbe
discussed, and the profound impacts generated from this transfer programwill be
2. analyzed as well in how the programhas propelled the internationalization on
campus through advancing campus learning outcomes and the student
scholarships, enriching institutionalcommunity services and outreach, increasing
student enrollment and retention rate and changing the related processes or
procedures in admission, transfer creditand studentservices. The feedbacks from
faculty, staff and even top administrators aboutthe success of this programare
also indicated. At the end of this session, audiencewill understand a transfer
programin detail, and learn how to identify a foreign institution to initiate a
transfer program, how to successfully maintain a transfer programand be able to
find out the impacts of a successfultransfer program in a university.
