Jesse Cheng earned a B.A. in Asian American Studies from the University of California, Irvine, where he was active on campus as a member of the Asian Pacific Student Association and the Associated Students of the University of California Irvine. Jesse Cheng is involved with the Japanese American Citizens League and OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates. Founded in 1973, OCA-Asian and Pacific American Advocates is a nonprofit that strives to empower the next generation of leaders. The organization has five policy priorities: 1. Immigration. The OCA fights for immigration reform to improve the family visa system and establish a straightforward path to citizenship. 2. Civic engagement and census. The OCA strives to empower Asian Americans and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters across the country to access the ballot in regions where voter suppression and fear-mongering try to prevent this access. 3. Education. The OCA works to ensure a more inclusive education system for members of its community. 4. Workforce development and technology. The OCA strives to ensure that AAPI civil rights and privacy are protected even as technology advances and that AAPIs have access to professional development programs. 5. Racial equality and inclusion. The OCA advocates for fair treatment and the elimination of hate crime, discrimination, and stereotyping.
