Slovenia is a small country sandwiched between Italy, Austria, Hungary, Croatia and Adriatic Sea, east of Venice. Because of its geographic position, it is influenced by the Germanic Alpine culture of the north and the Italian culture in the west. It is a member of the European Union, Schengen Country and NATO. In the north it bounds by the Alpine country and has a small stretch of coast between Italy and Croatia. It was part of the old Yugoslavia. It has its own unique language and most of its history, it was largely controlled by the Habsburgs of Austria. In the coastal area at times, it was held by Venice. It wildlife include the ibex, the brown bear, wild boar and roe deer. Its capital is Ljubljana.
