Muskoka along with Halliburton, Kawartha Lakes, and Peterborough Country is referred to as “Cottage Country”. It is a scenic area sprinkled with picturesque villages and towns, farming communities and lakeside houses. Lakes of all sizes are dotted around this region. In September 2015, I spent a week in this area. The scenery often reminds me of many of the Group of Seven landscape paintings. Indeed Tom Thomson, who lived in Algonquin Park, influenced the group of painters, who founded the Group of Seven. However, the late evening scenes reminded me of Frederic Edwin Church’s painting of the Catskills scenery along the Hudson River. Here are a selection of photos taken during our stay in the Cherry Island, High Lake, Muskoda, Ontario.
