SCIENTIFIC NAME : Crossandra infundifubuliformis
FAMILY NAME : Acanthaceae
COMMON NAME : Fire cracker plant
TAMIL NAME : Kanakambaram
4. Botany
Crossandra is an evergreen shrub of minor
importance.
The leaves are upright, some what toothed and
often verticillate.
Inflorescence is hairy, flowers appear in dense
sessile spikes, red to yellow, with prominent
bracts.
Corolla cylindrical, more or less curved, stamens 4
in pairs.

24. Planting system
• Land is ploughed thrice and FYM at 25t/ha is incorporated.
• Ridges are formed 60cm apart.
• Dip the roots of seedlings in Carbendazim(1g/l of water)
and plant on one side of the ridge at 30cm spacing.
• For seed production the spacing may be 60×60cm.
• For Delhi Crossandra a spacing of 60×40cm is to be
followed.
