Health education is known as any combination of planned learning experiences based
on sound theories that provide individuals , groups, and communities the opportunity to
acquire information, and the skills to make quality health decisions. In other words, health
education means to recognize negative and positive health behaviors, and to increase
awareness of them both. It is important to inform citizens on what it means to be truly healthy.
Similarly, health promotion focuses on the planned combination of educational,
political, environmental, regulatory, or organization mechanisms that support actions, and
conditions of living conductive to the health of individuals, groups, and communities. While
health education is used to inform and prevent; health promotion is casted to encourage the
usage of materials and services readily available to achieving and maintaining good health.
As a future specialist in the helping profession of healthcare it is necessary for myself,
as an individual, to uphold my perception of professional standards and their factors of
influence. From my own personal perspective, to be healthy means to live in a self-beneficial
state of mindfulness in regards to a healthy body and mind. In other terms, being healthy
means understanding one’s physical body and to live free from disease, illness, injury, or pain
in addition to behaving in a way of balance and soundness.
My health-related responsibilities and obligations for myself are to eat nutritiously,
engage in physical activity, be mindful of my thought processes and mental state, and to take
responsibility for my behavior in regards to my mind and body. To my community and
society my health related responsibilities and obligations are to take account for my own state
of health and to act with integrity in working for the public good. In order to help me be
healthy, I expect the members of my community and society to also take responsibility for
their health, to act in respect to the health of others, and to care for the environment and safety
of others.
Health education is any combination of planned learning experiences based on sound
theories that provide individuals, groups, and communities the opportunity to acquire
information and the skills to make quality health decisions. Therefore, health education means
attaining the ability to recognize negative and positive health behavior, and the capability of
being able to understand and comprehend the associated benefits and/or consequences.
Likewise, health promotion focuses on the planned combination of educational, political,
environmental, regulatory, or organization mechanisms that support actions and conditions of
living conductive to the health of individuals, groups, and communities. While health
education emphasizes the spread of information and a concentration on prevention; health
promotion acts to encourage the involvement of affirmative action.
To be a professional in this field means to act as a mentor of health education and health
promotion assisting in the development and strengthening of health related expertise to the
general public. My goals for myself and my profession are to act with integrity in putting all
efforts in bettering the health of our nation as whole. With this in mind, my professional
responsibilities to myself, my community, and to my profession include acting in a
professional and ethical manner at all times, to act in the best interest of patients, and to place
my services to others above self-interest.
Community health education fits within my goals and responsibilities as a future
professional in multiple ways. Mainly because it is essential for community health education
to provide accurate and unbiased information so individuals can make informed decisions
about their health and health care. Next, it is important to part take in health related activities
in order to be an advocate for the profession. A major component of community health
embraces being mindful to individual differences, including ethical and cultural diversity, and
the obligation to work for the public good.
