The Fastrack Institute is a non-profit organization that works to accelerate technology adoption to solve urban challenges. It operates using an Exponential Organizations methodology, running "Fastracks" in cities to identify scalable solutions. Fastracks have addressed issues like financial inclusion, mobility, health, and air quality in Medellin. A mobility Fastrack in Miami focused on solutions like gamified shared mobility. The latest Fastrack in Bogota worked on increasing transparency and efficiency in the justice system. Metrics provided indicate Fastracks have engaged over 2,000 citizens across 6 cities and 5 problem areas to date.
3. What is
The Fastrack Institute (FTI)?
We are a non-profit organization with
a mission to inspire, educate and
empower cities and their citizens to
find cutting edge, scalable ways to
solve urban challenges 10X faster
and cheaper than previously thought
possible.
5. o By 2050, 70% of world population expected to live in cities
o Cities generate 80% of global GDP, consume 75% of all
natural resources, emit over 80% of all greenhouse gases,
and produce over 50% of all waste
o Many of the world’s existential challenges – rapidly aging
populations, volatile economic growth, deep income
inequality, social polarization and stratification – are
manifest at the urban scale

Why
Cities
“Cities are the defining form of human
organization in the 21st century”
6. Tomorrow’s cities:
If unplanned - may be condemned to fragility
(sprawling, polluting, congested and
impoverished)
If designed with the future in mind - can be
resilient (dense, green, human-centered and
prosperous)
The urban dilemma can be converted into an
opportunity, but doing so will require a dramatic
change of mindset.
“The future of urbanization
hangs in the balance”

7. UN SDGs and CITIES
One way to deliver on the urban
advantage is to double down on the
Sustainable Development Goals, or
SDGs.
The SDGs include 17 goals and 169
targets to be achieved by 2030.
SDG 11 focuses on sustainable cities
and communities, which explicitly
acknowledges the socio-economic,
housing, infrastructure and
environmental challenges
associated with turbo-urbanization.
