ease. Medicine encompasses a variety of
health care practices evolved to maintain a
nd restore health by the prevention and tre
atment of illness.

3. • Any unwanted or unexpected effects of a medicines are
called side effects. They are also sometimes called adve
rse effects or adverse reactions.
• Side effects can also include:
1.interactions with other medicines or food.
2. the medicine not working well.

4. A DRUG IS ANY SUBSTANCE OTHER
THAN FOOD WHICH CHANGES THE
WAY THE BODY OR MIND FUNCTIONS.

5. • A drug must be able to pass through your body & into your
body, allowing brain cells to be changed by interfering with
the brains chemical signals called neurotransmitters.
• Heroin, alcohol, ecstasy, caffeine & nicotine are all forms of
drugs.

6. • Drugs make you less aware & alert making you feel ca
refree & can relieve pain.
• For example heroin causes psychological & physical de
pendence which can lead onto comas & even worse d
eath, as you can choke on your own vomit.

7. • Hard drugs are physically addictive & may be easy to
overdose on.
• Soft Drugs are not physically addictive.

in how the person looks or acts. Here are some of the
signs..
1. Become moody, negative, cranky, or worried all the time.
2. Ask to be left alone a lot.
3. Have trouble concentration.
4. Lose or gain weight.
5. Lose interest in their hobb.
6. Change friends.
7. Get in fights.

• Tetrahydrocannibinal(THC) is its main active ingredient
• Some use for medical purposes
• Lowers motivation & lose interest in things
• Co-ordination & reactions slow down
• Effects asthma
• Might have hallucinations
• Can cause someone to have high blood pressure
• Can increase the heart rate also

12. • Addiction is a chronic, often relapsing brain disease that causes c
ompulsive drug seeking & use despite harmful consequences to
the individual who is addicted & to those around them.
• Drug addiction is a brain disease because the abuse of drugs
leads to changes in the structure & function of the brain.
• No single factor can predict whether or not a person will become
addicted to drugs.
