UO Econ Club
Research/ debate project Fall 2015
Each term members will be assigned a research project to do and present to the rest of the club. Each
research project will have specific requirements, objectives.
This term we will focus on research, public speaking and critically thinking. As well being able to defend
and argument while using data. The presentation and debate will be in week 9.
-There are 5 topics. Members will be divided into equal numbers for each topic. Then members will have
to create a KeyNote presentation. Each presentation will have a limit time of 6 minutes to present.
Although time is short, its constraint will help teams to focus on key points.
-During each presentation members of the audience will be able to takes notes. These notes can consist of
information you find interesting, key data , bullet points about each topic or anything you don't agree or
find inconsistent and want to address during the debate part of the project.
-After all teams have presented all members will have the floor to address any questions, inconsistencies
or disagreements they have with any of the presentation (This is where the notes come in handy). The
team who is being questioned will have to respond or defend their argument backed by their research. To
continue the debate going each team will be asked question by the moderator.
-Aside from the presentation and debate. Each team will be scored on their presentation, being able to
address the requirements as well defend their position on the topic. Remember the keynote presentations
