1700's barn conversion
1. Situated on the outskirts of Wirksworth, these
interesting buildings have been converted into a
cosy, characterful home by owners Herbert and
Anne Brooks.
The first cottage on this site of Yokecliffe dates
from 1640, it is thought that these particular
buildings comprising barn, stables, tack room, and
gardeners quarters were built sometime in the
1700’s. The old picture, showing good detail of
the buildings, was taken in 1866. Sometime after
the picture was taken one end of the open barn
was converted into stabling with a hayloft over,
this now forms the first part of the conversion by
Herbert and Anne.
Herbert has connections with this site going back
to 1957 when his family moved into Yokecliffe
house. Later moving into the gardeners quarters,
his father continued milking their untill 1977.
The major conversion project started in 2011,
underfloor heating pipework had been installed
on the ground floor with radiators upstairs. A
highly efficient Danfoss ground source heat
pump, supplied by our team, provides all the
heating and domestic hot water required. “We
are highly delighted” said Herbert, “Very cosy
and warm”.
The heat pump drives energy from an array of
horizontal ground loops placed 1 meter below
the surface of an adjacent field.
The installation qualifies for Domestic RHI
(Renewable Heating Incentive) payments which
will offset the installation cost of this type of
heating system.
