11. What is the URGENCY?
• 6 high schools representing 44.1% of the graduating class (2,469
students) enrolled at PBSC
• All are Title I schools (offering financial assistance with high
percentage of children from low-income families)
• The average student-to-counselor ratio is 371:1 with Palm Beach
Central as the highest at 484:1 (recommended ratio is 250:1)
• 49.33% of these students failed the Algebra 1 End-of Course
(EOC) assessment with Palm Beach Lakes reporting a 64% failure
rate
• Florida Senate Bill 1720 no longer requires students to take
college placement test or to enroll in remedial courses (lower
retention and graduation rates are predicted)
