1) Breathe
Learn to take a deep breathe when stress hits or a depressive mood hits. Here’s why, firstly your body
needs oxygen to pump the blood round your body. Take a deep breathe and say “arrrrrgh” as you
breathe out and relax the muscles. Focus on relaxing every muscle in your body. This is very relaxing
and also will give you something else to focus on rather than your problems. Taking a deep breathe from
the diaphragm will break the inner mind connection. It breaks the cycle of negative habitual thinking that
ultimately leads to stuffing feelings with food.
When you have a negative thought, immediately take a deep breathe, which will break the neural pathway
in the mind (stream of thought) which lead to the bad habits, such as repeating negativity over and over in
the mind. This should help with stress and depression and therefore, stop you looking for food to make you
feel better.

2) Gain Consciousness
Binge eating or comfort eating has likely become an unconscious habit. You need to be more aware of why
you do what you do.
You have let your mind control you rather than you controlling your mind.
Realise that you are more than just your mind. You are not your mind. When your mind is ‘still’, you are
actually still able to function in this World because there is a greater deeper self beneath the stream of
thoughts that you have become addicted to.
Here’s how you can break your addiction to thinking.
By thinking I mean the constant chatter in your mind when you live day to day. You just said to yourself, I
don’t have a voice inside my head. Well, sorry to break it to you, that was the voice. ;)

9. Exercise 1 – Watch Your Thoughts
When you watch your thoughts and ask the question “what is my next thought going to be” you
immediately step outside of your thoughts and therefore, dis-empower them.
Exercise 2 – Focusing On the Present
When you focus on the present you immediately stop thinking and your deeper self comes
through.
So instead of just stuffing food down your mouth and not actually chewing or tasting and instead
watching the TV or having a conversation. Try this instead….focus 100% on the taste and
texture of the food. Shut your eyes and feel the texture and taste and even smell the air.
This will help you be aware when your body sends you messages letting you know when you are
full.
10. Exercise 3 – Feel Your Body’s Vibration
Instead of thinking, feel your body’s pulse. Feel your heartbeat. Feel the energy inside your
body and the vibration. Feel your chest rise and fall as you breathe in and out.
You should notice that whilst you did this exercise, your mind was still. The constant chatter
had stopped.
The above techniques as you perform them often will create new neural pathways in the mind.
New habits have formed. New consciousness. You will start to feel more joyful. You will have
a higher stress tolerance, if you actually find yourself stressed at all.
Ultimately, you will be less likely to go hunting for food to stuff the feelings due to
feeling empty inside.
These techniques have been taken from the techniques found in many spiritual practices. For
more on these, I suggest you pick up the books by Eckhart Tolle.
11. 3) Drink Lots of Water
Keeping hydrated will help you keep your energy levels up and will therefore have more
energy to burn the fat. Also, many people think they are hungry and stuff themselves with
food, when actually they are THIRSTY and dehydrated. Drinking lots of water will control your
appetite and also will help you cope with stress.
4) Get an Early Night
Research has shown that the body has it’s biggest growth between 10pm and 2am, so you
should make sure you sleep at these times. Your body will shred those pounds during this
growth time. If you want to lose weight then it takes energy.
12. 5) Eat Healthy
This is an obvious one, but here I want to give some other ideas you might not have known
about. Your body uses energy to digest food, so by eating junk food that is hard to digest,
then your body does not have any energy to properly digest the food and wont shed the
weight. By eating foods that are easily digestible the body has more energy to burn the fat
from your body. Again, you will be taking in less calories and will naturally lose the weight.
6) Don’t Starve Yourself
Research has proven that when you stop eating, your body naturally thinks you are going into
hibernation and therefore, starts to store the fat. Eating less food actually keeps the fat on.
13. 7) Exercise
Exercise releases the happy chemical and the endorphins that get released make you feel
good. This is an alternative way to get the endorphins that your body releases when you get a
fix when you stuff food. The feeling after exercise will destroy depression and stress.
Obviously, this will also help you lose weight by burning fat, but the foundation that gets laid
due to having a stronger mind and emotions will leave you wanting to eat healthy and not
binge eat on Mc Donald’s.

I think that we can all agree that by laying the foundations and fixing your mind activity you will
find it easier to control your habits and not be reliant of stuffing feelings with food. It really
comes to fixing the causes of your eating habits and therefore you will keep the weight off
Once you lose it. You do not want to become an exercise bulimic, so make sure you get
control of you mind, which effect your emotions and actions that follow.
Drink lots of water. Set some realistic targets. Have some big reasons to lose weight and
