2. Pacita Abad
"Woman of color"
Is a Philippine Painter. Pacita Barsana Abad was an
Ivatan and Philippine-American painter. She was
born in Basco, Batanes, a small island in the
northernmost part of the Philippines, between Luzon
and Taiwan. Her mother is Aurora Barsana Abad, and
her father is Jorge Abad. She was born on the 5th of
October 1946, and Died at the 7th of December
2004.
3. *Her more than 30-year painting
career began when she traveled to the
United States to undertake graduate
studies.
*She had first intended to study law in
San Francisco, it was there that she
decided to switch careers.
*Following that trip, Pacita became
committed to her painting and the joys
of travel around the world.

4. *She studied painting at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington D.C.
and The Art Students League in New York City, living on 5 different
continents and working in more than 80 countries.
*Pacita’s extensive travels to destinations like:
-Guatemala -Mexico
-India -Afghanistan
-Yemen -Sudan
-Mali -Papua New Guinea
-Cambodia -Indonesia
had a major impact on her life and art, and were the inspiration for
many ideas, techniques and materials used in her paintings.
