Jason Chan Receives 2013 Dr. Andrew V. Stevenson Merit Scholarship From Kappa Beta Delta
Kappa Beta Delta International Honor Society proudly announces that Jason Chan, Skyline College in San
Bruno, California, has received the 2013 Dr. Andrew V. Stevenson Merit Scholarship.
Overland Park, Kansas – April 26 2013 – Jason Chan, Skyline College in San Bruno, California has received the
2013 Dr. Andrew V. Stevenson Merit Scholarship in the amount of $1,000 for his commitment to academic
excellence and active involvement in his community.
A business economics major, Chan hopes to transfer next year to a bachelor’s degree program and, eventually,
secure an internship in the financial department of a business. Through his education, he hopes to become a
future leader and acquire the characteristics and skills needed to better the world. Currently, he hones his
leadership skills through volunteer work, serving as a high school tennis team aid, English tutor at Skyline
College, and after-school homework tutor at a local elementary school.
Chan also is a member of Kappa Beta Delta and Phi Theta Kappa. This year, he served as the organizer for the
first Skyline College Speaker Series, hosted by the campus’ Kappa Beta Delta Chapter in February. “It was here
that I learned how challenging it is to oversee many things at once,” says Chan. “It was also the first time that I
felt important, because many people looked to me for guidance.”
“Jason has amply demonstrated an energetic and focused ambition to achieve academic success and personal
development…Not only has Jason worked on projects for the Skyline community, he has also engaged in
activities that benefit others well beyond Skyline College. A specific example would be Jason’s participation in
the Prisoner’s Literature Project, which sends books to incarcerated individuals throughout the U.S.,” says
Arthur Takayama, Professor of Art and Photography at Skyline College.
Kappa Beta Delta is an international honor society that encourages and recognizes scholarship and
accomplishment among students of business, management, and administration pursuing associate degrees.

two-year institutions since 1991. ACBSP currently has more than 1,171 member campuses in 52 countries and
10 regions.
The Dr. Andrew V. Stevenson Merit Scholarship is awarded each year to a student who is a member of Kappa
Beta Delta International Honor Society, carries a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, is currently enrolled in
college courses, and has performed merited community service in the past year.
