1. Curriculum Vitae JAMIE KLARKE
My career as an artist and designer and Landscape Architect has afforded me
many creative opportunities. I have a deep connection to the natural world
and strive to better environmental conditions. Be it a personal or public space,
I am inspired by the intimate relationships between human behaviour and built
forms, guided by my art education regarding aesthetic principles such as
harmony, balance and contrast while understanding the importance of by
evidence-based design.
Outside! Planning and Design Studio, Intern, 2012-present
Working directly with principal Sue Sirrs, we balance projects of vastly different
scales: residential gardens, plazas and wetland re-creation to name a few.
Projects rely on ingenuity and practicality often incorporating original furniture
and sculptural elements with many project components built in-house.
Escapedesigns, Landscape designer/installer, 2010-2012
As an independent collaborator and part of Nathan Stewart's crew in Guelph,
Ontario, I installed several designs. The nature of my work with Mr. Stewart was
grounded in mutual respect and the enjoyment of combining traditional forms
and building practices with contemporary aesthetics; clean lines, asymmetrical
but balanced geometric spaces and inventive use of materials.
NSCAD University, Fine & Media Arts Technician, 2003-2010.
This department created this position to supply painting and drawing students
with a technical advisor. It involved overseeing classroom and studio practices,
health and safety standards and instructing technical components of other
courses including materials and handling techniques. I also oversaw a
construction shop dedicated to stretcher assembly, framing.
University of Guelph, Plants in the Landscape, 2011-2012.
The applicable content of this course was rewarding to both teach and learn. It
inspired me to continue learning about native plant material and ecology as a
graduate and LA practicing on the east coast.
NSCAD University, Extended Studies instructor, 2002-2010.
I instructed various courses open to groups of 10-16 people to improve their
observational and technical art skills. 7-10 week long courses ran intermittently
throughout the year and often included proposing technical and conceptual
ideas for new courses.
NSCC Screen Arts, Basic Technology instructor, 2000-2004.
The Screen Arts program at Nova Scotia Community College, Bell Road Campus
regularly staff industry professionals. I provided fundamental skills in basic
technology of set drafting/drawing, construction, set dressing, painting,
wardrobe, props design and acquisition, Art direction and Production design.
